Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, the Khyber Paktunkhwa Health MInister said stormed the university with firing inside the campus still going on and two explosions heard.

The militants used the cover of thick, wintry fog to climb over walls of the university before entering buildings and opening fire on students and teachers in classrooms and hostels. Police says it was thought that the gunmen held the second and third floors of a building on campus

Four suspected attackers also died in a battle. "A gun battle ensued between the attackers and Pakistan security forces, with television footage showing soldiers entering the campus as ambulances lined up outside the main gate and anxious parents consoled each other", reports The Guardian.

The number of terrorist attacks on educational institutions has increased in recent years. The Telegraph informs the latest terrorist attack was conducted just 30 miles from the scene of the Peshawar school massacre when 132 children were killed 13 months ago.
